Here at Northeast High School, we’ve always prided ourselves on providing our students with hands-on, real-world experiences that prepare them for success beyond the classroom. We’re thrilled to share some exciting news that will further enhance our woodworking program and benefit our students immensely.

Thanks to the generous donation of $500 from Infinity Insurance Agency, Inc. through its brand, Seguros Avanza, who is committed to supporting education and small businesses, our woodworking program is about to receive a boost. This contribution couldn’t have come at a better time as our students have been hard at work crafting items out of old pallet wood. With the constant use of their current equipment, the students now need tools.

Under the adept guidance of Mr. Scanlan, Mr. Adams, and Dr. Parker, our dedicated woodworking instructors, students have been honing their skills and channeling their creativity into crafting an array of items, including planter boxes, bat boxes, benches, and tables, all ingeniously fashioned from reclaimed materials. Moreover, students embark on a unique journey of boat building, beginning from their freshman year and passing the boat through each class level, where then the senior class completes the project. Mr. Scanlan further enriches their learning experience by organizing excursions to the nearby lake, where students rigorously test the seaworthiness of their meticulously crafted vessels. Despite facing challenges with limited resources, our students have demonstrated remarkable ingenuity and determination.

With the support of Seguros Avanza’s donation, we’ll be able to provide our students with the necessary power tools to take their craftsmanship to the next level. These new tools will enable them to achieve a finished, professional look on their projects, expanding their capabilities and fostering a deeper understanding of woodworking techniques.
